FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How Do I Get Involved?

If you are considering attending USD, click on the 'Recruit Me' link from the main page, and it will take you to a form to complete. Indicate what club you are interested in playing with, and an admissions rep from USD will reach out, then connect you to the correct club contact.

If you are a current USD Student, reach out to the club directly on social media, or email clubsports@usd.edu with your information, and we will forward that on to the appropriate point of contact.

What Do Club Sports Do?

Club Sports provide a competitive outlet for students who want to participate in their desired sport, competing against other universities at a lower stress/impact rate than that of a traditional athletics team. Club Sports athletes practice two to three times per week, compete against other universities in the Region/Nation, and have the opportunity to compete for a national championship. Our clubs wear USD branded apparel for games, utilize many of the same facilities as that of their USD Athletics counterparts, and get to represent the University of South Dakota on a big stage.

What Sports Are Offered?

We currently offer 11 club sports, and those can be found by utilizing the dropdown menu titled "Sports" at the top of this page. Some sports are separated into Men's & Women's clubs, and some are CoEd, meaning the entire club is open to both men and women. Most of these have separate competition teams for Men and Women depending on the sport.

Who Can Join?

Any currently enrolled USD Student (Undergrad, Grad or Doctoral) may join a club sport provided they are a student in good-standing with the university, as defined by the University. Each individual club reports to a national governing body that may further restrict club participation for sanctioned competitions.

To join, participate in practices, travel and competition, a student must:

1. Be a USD student enrolled in at least 1 credit hour and in good-standing as defined by USD

2. Hold a valid health insurance policy

3. Complete Enrollment in the Club by utilizing the "Player Dashboard" link in the header of this website

Does It Cost Money To Participate In Club Sports?

Clubs at USD are free to join, and free to participate in. Each club is eligible to receive funding from the university based on their assigned tier to help offset operational costs. Clubs are expected to attempt fundraising to help offset costs as well. Any costs exceeding the budget allocation are typically split amongst students, which may include travel, food, or club apparel the participants are allowed to keep.

If A Student Plays Club Sports, Can They Be Elevated To A USD Athletics NCAA Roster?

While it is not likely, it is certainly possible to join an NCAA team, most likely as a non-scholarship student-athlete. This would occur on a sport-by-sport and case-by-case basis.
